Responsibilities
• Prepare reports, conduct research, and perform calculations.
• Perform design and analysis of structural projects ranging in size and type (commercial, industrial, residential)
• Prepare designs from concept to tender and then construction.
• Prepare detailed calculations, technical specifications, and engineering drawings.
• Review structural drawings, including details, plans, elevation, and design specifications for conformity and errors.
• Permit application tasks such as plans and specifications.
• Conduct site reviews to gather information for upcoming projects, and complete reviews/inspections for projects under construction.
• Conduct field reviews and prepare site reports.
• Contract administration tasks such as site reviews, reviewing shop drawings, contractor submittal review, change orders, and respond to requests for information as needed.
• Interpret and use report information such as site surveys, geotechnical reports, etc.
• Investigate design requirements (code/design aspects) and apply these requirements to the project design.
• Work with the principal engineer to support project requirements.
• Coordinate and communicate effectively with project team members, designers, clients and external project consultants.
• Produce detailed drawings using CAD software such as AutoCAD, Revit, or similar.
• Review structural drawings, including details, plans, elevation, and design specifications for conformity and errors.
• Prepare contract documents, tender documents, and other administrative documents.
• Understand and maintain knowledge of building code and relevant design standards.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team or independently with minimal oversight.
Qualifications
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering (from an accredited Canadian University or equivalent)
• Registered as a P. Eng. with the PEO is an asset
• Experience: At least 3 years of related work experience
• Exceptional knowledge of the Ontario Building Code (OBC) and material design codes (steel, wood, masonry, concrete etc.). Familiarity with Parts 3, 4 and 9 of the OBC is required.
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Proficient in CAD processes
• Structural analysis software knowledge is an asset (ETABS, SAFE, SAP, S-FRAME)
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite of products.
• Knowledge and understanding of building systems, architectural standards, structural design standards and construction practices.
• Strong attention to detail and construction methods.
• A valid Ontario driver's license and personal vehicle are required.
